In Mexico imagery is something that is in between imagination
and religion. There is not separation between worlds. There is a coexistence
between death and living, between angels, saints and moribund. “Pedro Paramo”
by Juan Rulfo , is probably the literary work that best shows this continuity. The narrative of “Pedro Paramo” takes place in
one place: Comala, which is two places: Comala of the past is the village of
the living, and Comala of the present, inhabited by the death. It is also a
book about pain. Some characters already death are still sighting for the lost
ones. For Rulfo the creation of this book may have obey totally natural laws,
since life in Mexico is this way.
