The Latina woman emerges as the backbone of the family with
her dreams and hopes to make a difference for future generations of her family.
I strive to offer a rare glimpse into the soul of not the housemaid, the
restaurant cook, waitress, or occasional nanny, but the woman and mother, who
struggles to take her place among other Americans.
This work consist in the interior portrait of one Latino woman: Sonya Rosario. I choose to portrait Sonya to start these series of studies about Latino women because she is an inspiration for many women in Idaho. Sonya is an activist, film maker and the creator of Women of Color Alliance here in Boise, ID. I am approaching her portrait as an interior portrait, utilizing her stories, her different gestures and evident actions in her life to convey a sense of who she is.
